Name: Sabbath "Halo" Trex
Rank:  Sergeant, Union Marine Corps
Home City/World: Laban, Sternheim [claims Neu Berlin, Sternheim when asked.]
Age: 29
Hair:  Brown
Eyes: Green
Race: Human
Build: 1.75m/5'9", 68kg/150lbs, optimum weight, usually 10kgs or so underweight.
Archetype:  Antihero
Weapon of Choice:  Hazzard Ind. Mark X29 7.62mm infantry assault rifle.

Likes:  Fighting, drinking, sex, sleeping, copters, dogs.
Dislikes: His foster father, Cpl. Skinner Fain, Renses[species name], organized religion, seeing troopers under his leadership killed.
Hobbies:
Drinking - His favorite is Mauler's [compare to Jagermeister], but he will drink almost anything, provided it is served very cold.
Sex - Recreational casual sex.  Unlike S. Fain, he does not discriminate between species for partners, and predominately seeks partners who are also military or ex-military.  He is conflicted between not wanting any commitment to his lovers, but feeling obligated to some show of legitimate caring.
Target Practice - Target shooting is perhaps the ultimate relaxation for Trex.  The tight concentration required forces him to let go of other concerns.  Though he is not as skilled as Lt. Grey Fain or 1Sgt. Waylan Hart, he is the next best marksman of the team.
Cards/gambling - Trex will serve as dealer when Stitch is not playing.  He has a perfect 'poker' face, even though is teammates have forbade him to wear his goggles when they play.  He rarely loses.
Cinema - War * Action * Horror

Goals:  To protect his teammates, his surrogate family; to 'earn' their respect and trust.  To regain the rank of First Lieutenant.
Subplot:  Grows into his role as a leader of men, though never fully accepts the human cost in the form of troopers under his leadership.  Falls in love with Ettelle[species name] Specialist Naormine Tesqui'ida, who is a member of the team's support staff, and struggles to rationalize this affection.
Motivation:  Fierce sense of honor and near-fanatic fraternal loyalty to his teammates, especially fellow Marines.

Flaw: Self-critical.  No confidence in his command ability, though troopers who have served under him relate that he routinely makes sound command decisions, and genuinely cares for his men.
Self-destructive habits; liable to start fights he can't win to punish himself.

Out of Ordinary: Iridoplagia in both eyes prevents his pupils from contracting in reaction to light.  Trex wears light-reactive goggles to compensate.  These also feature night-vision, UV, and infrared modes.
Walks with a slight limp, aggravated by fatigue.
If fatigued or very stressed his hands shake.
Suffers insomnia, nightmares, occassional panic attacks, and irrational anger stemming from his combat traumas.

Greatest Fear: Failing in leadership role.
Receiving praise he feels he doesn't deserve, especially in the form of official medals/promotion.
Claustrophobia.
Greatest Accomplishment: Graduating Marine Flight training.  This is the first goal Halo sets for himself that he works for and acheives by his own drive.

Greatest regret: ??

Advantage: Most combat experience of the team.  Officer's training.

Skills: Superior close-combat skills especially with knives, good marksman, trained to pilot midsize multipurpose battle copters [compare to UH-60 Blackhawk] and midsize fighter craft.

History:
Trex was orphaned at a very young age and has no memory of his parents.  He became a ward of the state, City of Laban, Sternheim, and was given into foster care at a church orphanage.  The priest in charge, Father Dietrich Absalom, gave Trex the name Sabbath uppon his arrival.  Trex hates this name.

Sabbath struggles under Father Absalom's strict discipline and rigid moral standards.  Though he is a dedicated student, his school work is mediocre.  His frustration and resentment escalates through the years until the time he is sixteen when his reckless actions result in the death of a younger child fostered by the church.

After this tragedy, Trex tried to commit suicide by slashing both his wrists.  Father Absalom placed him in a psychiatric rehabilitation program.  When this failed, and Trex made a second attempt on his life, Father Absalom enrolled him in Marine officer's training at Neu Berlin, Sternheim, thinking the discipline would improve his behavior.  Just before his graduation, Father Absalom demanded he resign rather than take commission and deploy with the Marines to the active warzone at Vieren[planet].  Trex refused.  During the argument, Trex struck Father Absalom, and was consequently demoted for conduct unbecoming an officer.  He deployed as a sergeant to Vieren.  While there, he not only experienced some of the most ferocious guerilla warfare in the history of the Union Marine Corps, he also was introduced and became addicted to 'heavy black,' a local drug, taken intravenously, which in humans heightens awareness and performance.  In combat, a man 'hyped' on heavy black becomes capable of absorbing awesome damage to his body and continuing to fight much longer.

Although he later kicked the habit in order to be accepted to Marine Flight training, the damage sustained to his system left his eyes unresponsive to light [iridoplagia].  Since then he usually wears light-reactive goggles.

He served three combat tours with Ground Marines at Vieren before transfering to Marine Flight, where he received training for both copters and midsize fightercraft and advanced to the rank of second lieutenant.  He was also given his call sign 'Halo' which he now prefers to his given name.  He flew twelve missions in copters at Vieren, and five miscelaneous fighter missions throughout the galaxy.  At the battle of Rataki[planet], he and his pilot, Captain Techan "Tech" Ieko, disobeyed orders, and diverted their fighter to bombard a hilltop bunker which guarded the approach to an enemy air-base, missile emplacement and field headquarters.  Their actions enabled Ground Marines to capture the bunker and turn its heavy weapons back on the enemy, winning the battle, but cost Cpt. Ieko his life.  In light of their insubordination, their contribution to the campaign was striken from all records.  Trex stood court martial for the incident, and Ieko's death, and he did not refute the charges, even though conviction carried a sentence of execution.  However, the sentece was deferred, Trex was demoted once again, and forbidden to hold any rank above sergeant for seven years.

It is revealed that this is due to the influence of Special Forces Admiral Thalia, who has taken interest in Trex's skills as a pilot of both copters and fighters.    He is subsequently transferred to Special Forces.  His loyalty to the team is undying, because the team represents his second chance.  Trex forms strong friendships with 1 Sgt. Waylan Hart, and 2nd Lt. Grey Fain, as well as Cpt. O'Brien.

"Suffers insomnia, nightmares, occassional panic attacks..." in otherwords, the usual.

very well thought out character; love the back story. the iridoplagia's a nice touch and i can imagine what would happn if his goggles where ever broken/lost (espesially, in the middle of battle... yeeesh).
his fighting habits are pretty interesting... he likes to fight but will lose to punish himself... kind of seems like he's fighting a war with himself. like he's never good enough... he gets frustrated and angry so he becomes violent, then punishes himself for being like that and not being better. he dosnt think he deserves the credit he gets even when he does do something outstanding. he always thinks he could do better and beats himself up (litteraly) about his shortcommings. *thinking too much *
his relationship (or lack there of) problems also seem to be from trust issues. he chooses (ex)military people because that is the only thing and the only sort of people he has trusted in some way. he dosnt trust other people bacause he dosnt even trust himself fully. like he puts himself (his own issues and beliefs) on the other person(another reason he chooses people of military or ex military roles). then he leaves almost as if he's running away from siad issues. *thinking too much again...*

hehehe, funny how Trex is great at cards while O'Brian isnt. could have some interesting scenes there.

uhhh... other than the need for more species names, this is pretty awesome. ^^

*done ranting* :typerhappy:
